Why Law School Is An Amazing Opportunity For Me - 705 Words

Direction sometimes finds us; in destinations we least suspect it. This is my experience. This is my journey to law school. As Albert Einstein said, â€Å"â€Å"Any fool can know. The point is to understand.† I understand that law school is an amazing opportunity for me. I also understand that my experiences in the past, coupled with my current motivations and my future aspirations can be ascertained through the procurement of a JD. I have been on the opposite side of the law. I myself have dealt with criminal charges personally in the past. These however, have made me a better man and have helped me find my calling. Which is helping others through pursing a JD. I was giving a second chance at life by a criminal defense lawyer. His effective and competent representation ensured that my cases were handled in an appropriate and timely fashion. I had the money to be able to pay for the cases at the time. However, many other defendants waiting trial in this country don’t. The ratio of public defenders to criminal defendants needing their services in some jurisdictions is unacceptable. I want to be a public defender, for a couple of reasons. First I eventually want to try to effect some policy change to enact better and more effective representation for all defendants no matter how much income they have. Second I want to able have a positive effect on society through helping those offenders who deserve a second chance.
